Delhi: Delhi woke up to a chilly start on Saturday, with the minimum temperature settling at 6.7 degrees Celsius, below the normal level for this time of year, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

At Safdarjung, the city’s principal weather observatory, the night temperature was recorded at 6.7°C, around 1.7 degrees lower than the seasonal average. Other parts of the capital also experienced similar cold conditions. Palam reported a minimum of 8.1°C, while Lodi Road registered 7.1°C. The Ridge area saw temperatures drop to 7.7°C, and Ayanagar recorded one of the lowest readings at 6.6°C.

Alongside the colder weather, air pollution levels remained a concern. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed that Delhi’s Air Quality Index stood at 278 at 9 am, placing it in the “poor” category.

As per CPCB standards, AQI values between 201 and 300 are classified as “poor,” indicating potential breathing discomfort for people with respiratory ailments. Lower AQI ranges from zero to 50 are considered “good,” while levels above 400 fall under the “severe” bracket.

Authorities have advised residents, especially children, the elderly and those with health issues, to limit prolonged outdoor exposure as pollution levels remain elevated.
