Surrey, Canada: Gunmen opened fire at Punjabi radio station Radio Swift 1200 AM in Surrey during a live broadcast on Tuesday, damaging the station’s windows and walls. No injuries or casualties were reported.
According to the police investigation, a criminal group identified as ‘Hood 420’ has emerged in connection with the shooting. Police are reportedly examining alleged links between the group and networks associated with Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Dhillon.
$5 Million Extortion Demand Under Investigation
Police reportedly recovered a threatening note from the phone of 25-year-old Ravinder Singh, who is alleged to be associated with the group.
According to the information available, the note allegedly demanded $5 million from the radio station’s owner. The shooting reportedly took place on September 29 after the alleged demand was not met.
Investigators are probing whether the shooting was carried out as part of the alleged extortion attempt.
Ravinder Singh In Immigration Detention
Ravinder Singh is reportedly facing more than 100 cases related to alleged extortion and shootings in Ontario and Alberta.
The Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) has reportedly issued a deportation order against Singh over alleged organised-crime involvement. He is currently in immigration detention.
Police are also searching for his alleged associates, 24-year-old Jagdeep Singh and Iqbal Singh, in connection with the shooting.
Special Investigation Team Formed
Authorities have constituted a Special Investigation Team to investigate the attack and identify everyone allegedly involved.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the alleged extortion demand and the suspected criminal-network links as part of the probe.
No casualties have been reported in the attack, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
