AHMEDABAD — Police in Ahmedabad have arrested three individuals following a violent attack on a group of readers discussing Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai’s memoir, I Am Malala, at a public park on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at Vastrapur Garden, where approximately twenty people, including several women, had convened for an open book-reading event. As the attendees prepared to leave the premises after concluding their session, they were confronted by a mob of 18 to 20 armed individuals claiming affiliation with the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The assailants aggressively questioned the gathering about their decision to read Yousafzai’s autobiography before assaulting them with sticks.

The confrontation escalated into a physical clash, leaving two participants injured. Vastrapur Police Station Inspector G. M. Chaudhary confirmed that law enforcement responded swiftly to the altercation, registering a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the attackers.

According to police officials, the FIR includes charges related to rioting, unlawful assembly, and voluntarily causing hurt under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Two of the accused were reportedly recognized by victims at the scene, leading investigators to identify six individuals involved in the assault and place three under arrest as the investigation proceeds.
