Jalandhar— The Jalandhar zonal unit of the Enforcement Directorate has initiated a formal case against Rajbir Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, broadening the administrative probe into alleged financial misconduct. The federal agency’s entry into the investigation aims to track suspicious transaction channels, trace money laundering trails, and examine irregular fund routing linked to the matter.
The development follows just twenty-four hours after the Supreme Court provided significant interim relief to Ghuman, issuing notices on his petition while barring authorities from taking coercive actions or effecting his arrest until the next scheduled hearing. The apex court’s protection had offered brief reprieve to state administrative circles before the central anti-money laundering agency launched its separate proceedings.
The central agency’s intervention has created considerable political ripples across Punjab, intensifying scrutiny around senior functionaries in the state administration. Enforcement Directorate officials are currently collating banking records, asset holdings, and allied transaction data to probe potential violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act as the investigation moves forward.
