NEW DELHI — Delhi Police registered multiple First Information Reports across Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg police stations on Tuesday following an Opposition march held in central New Delhi. Authorities stated that the cases involve unlawful barricade breaches and political graffiti spray-painted on public roadways during Monday’s large-scale demonstration.
The march, led by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi alongside leaders and workers from the INDIA bloc, progressed along Barakhamba Road toward the Supreme Court. The demonstration formed part of a coordinated effort by eleven Opposition parties challenging the Election Commission of India over alleged discrepancies in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Concurrently, the Supreme Court Registry flagged fourteen procedural defects in a writ petition filed by Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and nine other Opposition figures under Article 32 of the Constitution. The registry sought clarification regarding the inclusion of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as private respondents, questioning the naming of poll officials directly in the constitutional filing.
The petitioners, representing parties including the Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Shiv Sena (UBT), are seeking judicial scrutiny into how the poll body executed decisions regarding voter-roll revisions. Ahead of planned follow-up meetings, Gandhi invited Opposition members of Parliament to his residence for discussions, affirming that the joint alliance will continue its coordinated campaign against the administration’s actions.
