Bharatpur: A tragic incident unfolded in Bharatpur district on Friday as a 31-year-old man allegedly shot his wife before taking his own life during a family wedding celebration. The event occurred in Singhavali village, within the jurisdiction of the Rupwas police station, where a pre-wedding programme for the woman’s cousin was in progress. According to police reports, the man, identified as Raghavendra from Agra, arrived at his wife’s parental home around midday and engaged in a heated argument with his 28-year-old spouse, Radhika.

The situation escalated when Raghavendra reportedly led his wife into a private room and locked the door from the inside. Shortly after, family members heard the sound of gunshots emanating from the room. Upon breaking down the door, they discovered both individuals lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Raghavendra was found to have died instantly at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Radhika, who had been shot in the chest with a country-made pistol, was found in critical condition and immediately rushed for medical assistance.

Radhika was initially transported to a local hospital in Rupwas before being moved to the RBM Hospital in Bharatpur. Due to the severity of her injuries, medical staff subsequently referred her to a specialized facility in Jaipur for advanced treatment. Station House Officer Vinod Meena confirmed that the weapon involved in the shooting has been recovered by investigators. While the couple had been married for four years and shared a three-year-old son, the specific motive behind the dispute remains under investigation as police continue to record statements from the distraught family members.
