New Delhi: Rescue teams recovered another worker’s body from the debris of a collapsed building in Old Delhi’s Hauz Qazi area on Saturday, taking the death toll in the incident to three, officials said.
The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Pankaj Sharma, who hailed from Hanuman Nagar village in Bihar’s Khagaria district. His body was found as emergency personnel continued searching through the remains of the three-storey structure.
The recovery came after nearly two days of rescue efforts at the site. So far, five people have been brought out of the debris, including three who died and two who sustained injuries. Officials said both survivors had received medical attention and were in stable condition.
The incident took place at around 9.45 am on Thursday when a building under construction collapsed in Gali Sitara, close to Chawri Bazar Metro station. Rescue and debris-removal operations remained underway on Saturday as teams worked to check whether anyone else was trapped.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh, an estimated 10 to 15 labourers were present at the construction site when the three-storey building came down.
Authorities have continued efforts to search the remaining rubble and complete the operation.
