New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate Diwali on Sunday with security personnel deployed in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, where anti-Naxal operations have been underway for several years.
Announcing his visit in a post on X, Modi said he was travelling to Bastar to mark the festival with the security forces and acknowledge their contribution.
“Heading to Bastar to celebrate Diwali with our brave security forces,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister described Bastar as a region where Naxalism once held sway but where development was now gaining ground. He said he would salute the personnel for their sacrifices, selfless service and commitment to the country.
Security Forces Played Key Role In Anti-Naxal Operations
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel and the Chhattisgarh Police have been deployed across Bastar and have been involved in operations against Naxal groups.
On March 31, the Centre announced that the country had been freed from the menace of Naxalism, citing the elimination of several leaders and cadres and the surrender of hundreds of others.
Modi’s visit comes as security personnel continue to be recognised for their role in the campaign against Left-Wing Extremism.
Modi Says He Will Continue Diwali Tradition With Soldiers
While extending Diwali greetings on Saturday, the Prime Minister said he would celebrate the festival with soldiers this year as well, continuing a tradition from previous years.
In a video message shared on his social media accounts, Modi said he would celebrate Deepavali with enthusiasm and wished people peace, prosperity and happiness.
“My heartiest greetings to all of you for Deepavali. I wish for peace, prosperity and happiness for all of you in the coming days,” he said.
He added that he celebrates the festival with the country’s soldiers every year and would continue the tradition this time.
