New Delhi: With air pollution worsening across the national capital, the Delhi government has directed schools to adopt a hybrid teaching arrangement for students up to Class 5, allowing children to switch between classroom learning and online lessons.
The instruction was issued by the Directorate of Education on Friday and applies to government-run, government-aided and recognised private schools. Institutions administered by the NDMC, MCD and Delhi Cantonment Board are also required to follow the order.
The arrangement gives parents the choice of sending their children to school or having them attend classes remotely, depending on their circumstances and concerns over exposure to polluted air.
The decision has been taken in line with directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The pollution-control body has activated all measures under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) with immediate effect in Delhi-NCR.
The latest move places the focus on reducing the exposure of younger schoolchildren to the deteriorating air while ensuring that their studies can continue without interruption.
