Mansa: Anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was cremated on Sunday, 26 days after his death, following the completion of his post-mortem examination at PGI Chandigarh. His body was handed over to the family on Diwali morning and later brought to his residence in Mansa, Punjab, for his final rites.
Jhota’s cremation took place amid continuing demands from his family for a detailed investigation into his death. The delay in the last rites had kept the case in focus, with his family raising questions over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Parvinder Jhota’s Father Alleges Political Conspiracy
Speaking during the cremation proceedings, Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, accused the Punjab government, local police administration and alleged drug traffickers of conspiring to kill his son.
He claimed that 28 days had passed and those he described as the main conspirators were still at large. He also alleged that police officers involved in the matter had not been arrested.
Bhim Singh demanded a thorough investigation and called for the immediate transfer of the local Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). He alleged that political leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party were protecting the police officer.
These allegations were made by the family and have not been independently established.
Family Seeks Action Against Those Behind Jhota’s Death
Bhim Singh said the family would not find peace until those responsible for his son’s death were identified and brought to justice. He also appealed to the Centre, particularly the Union Home Ministry and Home Minister Amit Shah, to intervene in the matter.
Jhota was known for his anti-drug activism in Punjab. His death had triggered demands for accountability and action against those allegedly responsible.
The latest developments come as the family continues to press for answers, even as Jhota’s last rites have now been performed after the prolonged delay.
