Chandigarh: Political activity within the Punjab Congress gathered pace on Wednesday as AICC general secretary and Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel held a meeting with several party leaders in Chandigarh. The gathering, hosted at the residence of Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh in Sector 4, drew attention amid ongoing discussions within the state unit.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi added an element of intrigue before entering the meeting venue. When asked about the significance of the discussions, Channi offered a brief but cryptic response, saying, “Wait and watch which way the wind blows.” His remark quickly became a talking point, sparking speculation over the outcome of the meeting.
The meeting was attended by a group of Congress leaders who are believed to have concerns regarding organisational matters in the state. While no official details of the discussions were disclosed immediately, the interaction is seen as part of the party’s efforts to engage with its leaders and assess the prevailing political situation in Punjab.
Speaking to reporters, senior Congress leader and MLA Pargat Singh said Bhupesh Baghel, as the party’s in-charge for Punjab, was meeting leaders to understand their views. He added that Baghel would evaluate the feedback and convey his assessment to the Congress high command.
Pargat Singh also expressed confidence that any future decision would be taken keeping the party’s interests in mind. He did not elaborate on the specific issues discussed during the meeting.
The closed-door interaction comes at a time when the Punjab Congress is focused on strengthening its organisational structure and addressing internal concerns. Party leaders are now awaiting the outcome of Baghel’s consultations and any decisions that may follow after he briefs the central leadership.
