Malappuram: A three-year-old boy lost his life after choking on a peanut while eating a snack at his home in Kerala’s Malappuram district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Monday in Kunnumpuram, under the jurisdiction of the Vengara police station. According to police officials, the child was eating a serving of mixture, a popular savoury snack, when a peanut became lodged in his throat, obstructing his airway.
Family members rushed to help the child after he began choking, but he could not be saved. He later succumbed to the medical emergency.
Police said the death appears to be accidental, with preliminary findings indicating that the peanut became stuck in the child’s throat while he was eating.
The incident has highlighted the risks of choking among young children, particularly while consuming foods such as whole nuts, which can pose a serious hazard if accidentally inhaled or swallowed improperly.
Authorities have not reported any foul play, and further proceedings are being carried out in accordance with standard procedures.
