New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating substance abuse among young people. Speaking virtually at the launch, Modi stressed that a physically and mentally healthy youth population is essential to achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

Addressing a large gathering of young participants, many of whom identified themselves as representatives of Generation Z, the Prime Minister said the campaign extends beyond the youth, describing it as a movement for families, society and the nation as a whole.

The initiative marks the start of a 100-week ‘Jan Bhagidari’ campaign, during which awareness activities will be organised every Sunday across the country to encourage public participation in building a drug-free society.

Planned activities include sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, awareness drives, street plays (nukkad nataks), discussion forums, art competitions and community engagement programmes. The campaign also seeks to motivate young people to become ambassadors of positive social change within their communities.

Speaking at the launch, Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya noted that the broader Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was launched in 2020 in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of creating a drug-free India. The new youth-focused campaign is intended to strengthen that effort by encouraging greater participation from young citizens and local communities.
