New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday, April 27, 2026, remanded 19-year-old Rahul Meena to seven-day judicial custody in connection with the brutal murder and alleged sexual assault of an IRS officer’s daughter. The accused was produced before the Saket District Court following the expiration of his four-day police remand. Meena had been apprehended last Wednesday from a hotel in Dwarka after a focused manhunt.
The victim, a recent engineering graduate, was found critically injured at her family home in the Kailash Hills area of Southeast Delhi on April 22. Investigators revealed she had been strangled with a mobile phone charger and sustained severe head trauma inflicted by a blunt object. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital by her parents, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Rahul Meena had previously served as a domestic worker for the family for approximately one year but was dismissed several weeks ago. Investigations conducted by Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Vijay Kumar have highlighted financial distress as a major factor, as Meena was reportedly under a significant debt of Rs 2–2.5 lakh, allegedly stemming from losses in online betting.
While a personal grudge due to his dismissal is considered a likely motive, police also believe the initial intent may have been robbery. Following the attack, Meena allegedly ransacked an almirah and fled with Rs 2 lakh in cash, which has since been recovered by the police. The incident occurred during a narrow window when the victim was alone at home while her parents were at a local gym. The Delhi Police are continuing their investigation to confirm the extent of premeditation involved in the crime.
