Amritsar: A devastating road accident on Mehta Road near Amritsar claimed the lives of three members of a family on Sunday evening. The incident occurred between the villages of Ghanshyampur and Tanel when a speeding black Hyundai Creta car rammed into an Activa scooter carrying a couple and their young daughter. The impact was so severe that it resulted in the immediate death of the family patriarch and subsequent fatalities of his wife and daughter.
The victims have been identified as Resham Singh, a resident of Bhalarwal village near Ghuman, his wife Seema, and their daughter Kawaldeep Kaur. The family was reportedly travelling to Bhatti village to visit relatives when the tragedy struck. According to eyewitness accounts and local police, the high-speed car coming from the Mehta side lost control and struck the scooter head-on. Resham Singh died on the spot, while Seema and Kawaldeep were left with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency response teams from the Road Safety Force and Mehta Police Station arrived quickly at the scene to provide assistance. The injured mother and daughter were initially rushed to the Civil Hospital in Batala; however, due to their critical condition, they were referred to a specialized facility in Amritsar. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, both succumbed to their injuries during treatment later that night.
The local community has expressed deep shock and grief over the loss of an entire family in a single incident. Mehta police have registered a formal case against the unidentified driver of the Creta, who reportedly fled the scene following the collision. An investigation is currently underway, with authorities examining local CCTV footage and vehicle records to apprehend the culprit. Residents have once again raised concerns regarding the lack of speed regulation and safety measures on the Mehta Road stretch.
