Mohali: Air travel options from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport (SBSI), Chandigarh, are set to expand further as two new direct flights connecting the city to Pune and Bengaluru will be introduced from June 1, significantly improving connectivity for passengers travelling to these major destinations.

The new services will be operated by Air India Express as part of the airline’s revised summer schedule, aimed at catering to growing passenger demand from the Chandigarh region.

A major highlight of the expansion is the launch of a daily non-stop Chandigarh-Pune service, which will mark the first post-midnight departure from the airport under the current summer schedule. The flight will leave Chandigarh at 12:45 am and land in Pune at approximately 3:10 am. The return service will depart Pune at 3:45 am, reaching Chandigarh at 6:05 am every day.

The move is expected to offer greater convenience to business and leisure travellers while strengthening Chandigarh’s direct access to western India.

In addition, air connectivity with Bengaluru is also being enhanced through another daily direct service. The new flight will depart from Chandigarh at 6:40 am and arrive at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2 at 9:55 am. On the return leg, the aircraft will leave Bengaluru at 9:15 pm and touch down in Chandigarh at 12:15 am.

Airport officials confirmed that ticket bookings for both newly introduced routes have already opened.

With the addition of this new Bengaluru service, Chandigarh will now have five daily non-stop flights to the southern metro, reflecting increasing passenger traffic between the two cities and growing demand for seamless business and corporate travel.

Currently, only one direct flight operates between Chandigarh and Pune, run by IndiGo, with departure from Chandigarh at 10:50 pm and arrival in Pune at 1:10 am, while the return journey departs Pune at 3:00 am and reaches Chandigarh at 5:20 am.

Officials believe the latest expansion will not only improve travel flexibility but also strengthen Chandigarh airport’s position as a key aviation hub for northern India.
