NEW DELHI — Bharatiya Janata Party national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday reprimanded three Delhi Lok Sabha members of Parliament for visiting the family residence of late Congress leader and convicted 1984 anti-Sikh riots perpetrator Sajjan Kumar to offer condolences following his death.

The party leadership summoned parliamentarians Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Yogender Chandolia from North West Delhi, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi to explain their conduct. Nabin conveyed firm displeasure over their visit to Kumar’s residence in Peeragarhi, stating that the lawmakers should not have paid their respects to a convicted mass murderer serving two concurrent life sentences in Tihar Jail for the killing of innocent Sikhs.

The reprimand follows fierce public criticism from senior Punjab leader and veteran advocate H. S. Phoolka, who has represented victims and survivors of the 1984 massacre for four decades. Phoolka strongly denounced the MPs’ actions, calling for a boycott of the three parliamentarians and emphasizing that the party’s historical alignment has always favoured justice for riot survivors.

While party spokespersons initially stated the three lawmakers had visited Kumar’s residence strictly in an individual and personal capacity, the central leadership intervened swiftly to address the political fallout. All three constituencies represented by the MPs were carved out of the erstwhile Outer Delhi parliamentary seat, which Kumar previously represented in the Lok Sabha.
