Seattle: Two people were killed and at least five others were injured after a shooting at Seattle Center on Sunday, prompting a major emergency response and heightened security in the area.
According to the Seattle Fire Department, two victims were declared dead at the scene. Emergency teams rushed multiple injured people to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Among those injured is a two-year-old boy, who was admitted to the hospital in stable condition. A 56-year-old woman sustained serious injuries, while another individual suffered minor injuries but declined hospital treatment. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or provided additional details about the circumstances of the attack.
Several of the injured were taken to Harborview Medical Center, where officials confirmed that the hospital had been placed under a partial lockdown as a precautionary measure. Hospital representatives said the decision was taken in coordination with the Seattle Police Department to ensure the safety of patients, their families and medical staff.
Hospital officials said five patients from the shooting were receiving treatment, including the young child, who was reported to be in satisfactory condition. The remaining victims include three women and one man, all of whom were listed in satisfactory condition, although one of the women was undergoing surgery.
The hospital also indicated that it was not expecting any additional patients linked to the incident.
Police have launched an investigation to determine what led to the shooting and are working to identify those responsible. No information regarding possible suspects, arrests or a motive had been released at the time of filing this report.
