Greater Noida: Account holders of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Greater Noida have alleged that nearly Rs 35 crore went missing from their savings accounts and fixed deposits, with several customers claiming that funds were transferred without their authorisation.

According to police, some account holders also alleged that they did not receive alerts or messages about the disputed transactions. The matter has prompted action against bank employees and a police investigation.

Bank management has suspended several employees, including the branch manager, and a case has been registered at the Beta-2 police station, which has jurisdiction over the branch. Officials said the bank had assured the authorities that it would address the customers’ complaints.

Customers Report Missing Savings

Vijendra Singh, one of the affected account holders, told reporters that his savings account, which previously held around Rs 87 lakh to Rs 88 lakh, was now showing a balance of only Rs 1 lakh.

Singh said he was a farmer and had received compensation from the authority.

Another customer, Haneef Khan, said he maintained a savings account at PNB’s Aichhar branch in Greater Noida. He alleged that his account, which had a balance of Rs 39 lakh, was now showing no funds.

Khan also claimed that he had neither received a transaction alert nor signed any document authorising the transfer of money from his account.

Account Holder Claims He Discovered Transactions During Bank Visit

Zakir, another customer, alleged that Rs 9.5 lakh had been held in his account before the disputed transactions. He said he did not receive any text message from the bank about the alleged transfers.

According to Zakir, he learnt about the matter only after visiting the bank branch.

The allegations have raised concerns among customers over the handling of their deposits and the absence of transaction notifications, though the circumstances surrounding the reported loss of funds remain under investigation.

Police Register Case, Probe Underway

Police have registered a case at the Beta-2 police station and begun investigating the allegations. The suspension of the branch manager and other employees is part of the action taken by the bank management as the matter is examined.

The bank has assured authorities that it will address the grievances raised by account holders. Further details about the disputed transactions, the employees’ alleged roles and the recovery of funds have not yet been established.

The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the bank employees have not been established in court.
