New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has urged people to participate in the ‘Chalo Delhi Ramlila March’ scheduled for November 1, describing it as a movement to protect democracy and the Constitution and oppose alleged vote theft.
In a video message shared on X on Thursday, Gandhi appealed to citizens who believe democracy and constitutional values are under threat to join the march. He stressed that the proposed demonstration was not limited to any one political party.
“Chalo Dilli Ramlila March, it is a march to save democracy, to stop vote theft, to save the Constitution,” Gandhi said, urging people dissatisfied with the Narendra Modi government and those seeking to protect democratic institutions to participate.
Rahul Gandhi Appeals To Students To Join March
Gandhi also called on student organisations across political affiliations to take part in the proposed rally. He said students who believe their freedom of expression, ideas and way of thinking are under threat should join the demonstration.
In his video message, Gandhi encouraged participants not to be intimidated by the possibility of police action.
“Come march with us. We’ll walk together to protect the Constitution, to protect the Indian nation,” he said, describing the event as a march for the country and its democratic values.
His appeal comes as the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies prepare for a rally at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital on November 1.
INDIA Bloc Prepares For Ramlila Maidan Rally
The Congress is preparing for a major show of strength alongside opposition parties under the INDIA bloc banner. The rally is expected to focus on allegations of electoral irregularities and the opposition’s demand for accountability in the electoral process.
Separately, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is hosting MPs from INDIA bloc parties as opposition leaders prepare for a mock parliament scheduled for Friday. According to the information provided by the party, the exercise is intended to symbolically address the issue of removing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar through impeachment proceedings.
The mock parliament is scheduled to take place ahead of the November 1 rally.
The Congress and its allies have made allegations of “vote chori” a central part of their political campaign. The claims are contested political allegations, and the march is expected to provide the opposition with a platform to press its demands.
With the rally approaching, Gandhi has appealed to citizens, particularly students and people concerned about democratic rights, to participate in the demonstration.
