Donald Trump Warns Iran Confrontation May Continue Despite Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz does not necessarily mark the end of the military confrontation with Iran, while indicating that Washington is not currently interested in holding talks with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed that Iran was under severe military and economic pressure and suggested that the country was struggling to maintain its operations.

“They’re not paying their troops. They’re in deep trouble,” Trump said, without providing specific evidence or details about Iran’s military situation.

His remarks left open the possibility of further US military action, although he did not outline any planned operation or identify circumstances that could prompt Washington to strike again.

Strait Reopens, But Military Option Remains

Trump sought to make clear that the reopening of the strategic waterway should not be viewed as the conclusion of the broader confrontation.

“They are in deep trouble, they have very little capacity, the strait of Ormuz is open, it doesn’t mean we finished with the military,” he said.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas shipments. Any prolonged disruption in the waterway can have implications for international energy markets and commercial shipping.

Trump did not specify which Iranian capabilities he believed had been degraded or explain what additional military steps the US could potentially take.

No Immediate Meeting With Iran

Despite the reopening of the waterway, Trump indicated that diplomatic talks with Tehran were not on his immediate agenda.

“There’s not a lot to speak with Iran,” he said, adding that the United States was “not looking to meet or anything.”

The comments suggest that the administration currently prefers to maintain pressure on Iran rather than pursue direct negotiations.

Trump did not spell out any conditions that Iran would have to meet before the US would consider renewed diplomatic engagement.

Russia’s Position Also Comes Under Scrutiny

Trump was also questioned about Russia’s relationship with Iran and whether Washington could take action against Moscow if its cooperation with Tehran continued.

The US president offered a relatively restrained response, saying Russia had so far behaved well in connection with the Strait of Hormuz.

“It depends, I think Russia has behaved quite well — so far regarding the Strait of Ormuz,” Trump said.

He did not provide details about Moscow’s actions or indicate whether the US had received any specific assurances from Russia regarding its relationship with Iran.

Shipping and Energy Markets Remain in Focus

The comments come as international attention remains fixed on the security of commercial shipping through the Gulf region.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical passage for global energy supplies, making any threat to its operation a major concern for governments, shipping companies and energy markets.

While the reopening of the waterway has eased immediate concerns over maritime traffic, Trump’s remarks indicate that uncertainty surrounding the wider US-Iran confrontation remains.

For now, Washington appears to be keeping its military options open while ruling out immediate talks with Tehran, leaving the possibility of further developments in the already tense region.
