HOSHIARPUR — A designated Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court delivered a capital punishment verdict on Saturday against an individual hailing from Uttar Pradesh for the brutal sexual assault and killing of a five-year-old boy. Handing down the death sentence to the convict, Nanak Dev, Special Judge Manpreet Kaur deemed the atrocity to be within the legal benchmark of the “rarest of rare” cases, ruling that the extreme gravity of the offence justified the ultimate statutory penalty.
The tragic incident occurred in September 2023, when the young boy was kidnapped from the exterior of his family home in the New Deep Nagar locality. A police search subsequently led to the discovery of his remains abandoned inside a nearby crematorium, bearing evidence of fatal violence and severe assault. Following the conclusion of the trial, the judicial bench underscored that the horrific nature of the transgression against an innocent victim precluded any judicial leniency, resulting in the award of the death penalty.
