PHAGWARA — Lovely Professional University (LPU) has ordered the immediate suspension of regular academic classes for 10 days starting Monday, September 28, following escalating unrest on its campus. In an official communication issued late Sunday night, the university administration also confirmed the indefinite postponement of mid-term examinations (MTT) until further notice.
The sudden shutdown comes as campus security arrangements were heavily reinforced overnight. According to reports from the grounds, additional Punjab Police personnel equipped with riot gear, bulletproof vests, shields, and batons were dispatched to the main university gates to control crowding and secure sensitive perimeters. Students and campus residents near the gates have been instructed to clear the vicinity immediately and move toward safer indoor areas.
In its circular issued to students, the university advised individuals to remain indoors within their hostels or designated accommodations, explicitly cautioning against venturing outside or engaging in unrest. Given the ten-day suspension of academic activities, the administration has also permitted students to travel back to their hometowns after coordinating with their parents or guardians.
The revised schedule for postponed mid-term examinations is slated to be published separately through the university’s internal University Management System (UMS) portal. University authorities have appealed to the entire student body to exercise restraint, stay calm, and rely solely on official notifications transmitted via the UMS platform as law enforcement maintains strict vigilance around the campus perimeter.
