Tarn Taran: A 45-year-old man was shot dead in Tarn Taran following a confrontation between two groups in Gaggobua village, police said on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Navdeep Singh, husband of Shiromani Akali Dal sarpanch Kulwinder Kaur of the village, which falls under the Chabal police station area.
According to police, an argument between two groups broke out in the village on Friday night. During the dispute, Surinder Singh alias Sonu Kanda, who operates a jewellery shop in Gaggobua, allegedly opened fire at Navdeep Singh.
Navdeep sustained serious injuries in the shooting. He was being taken to a hospital for treatment when he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
DSP City Sukhbir Singh said police have registered a case against three people in connection with the incident. The accused have been identified as Surinder Singh alias Sonu Kanda, Nirmal Singh Nimma and Arshdeep Singh.
The case has been filed under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Police teams have launched searches to locate and arrest the accused.
Authorities said the incident was linked to the dispute between the two groups and did not appear to have any political or gangster-related connection.
Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances that led to the confrontation and the subsequent shooting.
