HOSHIARPUR — A tragic late-night road mishap claimed the life of a woman and left her son critically injured after their motorized scooter lost control and crashed near Tutomajara village along the Mahilpur-Garhshankar route in Hoshiarpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Kaur, wife of Gurcharanpreet. According to preliminary details gathered by authorities, the woman was returning home from visiting her maternal family, travelling as a pillion rider with her son, Jaskaran Singh, who was steering the Honda Activa scooter.
The fatal collision occurred when an unidentified pedestrian suddenly stepped into the middle of the roadway directly in their path near Tutomajara. In an attempt to avoid hitting the pedestrian, the two-wheeler abruptly lost stability, skidded off course, and crashed heavily onto the tarmac.
Both mother and son sustained extensive blunt-force trauma and were quickly transported by passersby to the Civil Hospital in Mahilpur for emergency medical intervention. Attending medical personnel declared Jaswinder Kaur dead on arrival, while her son was admitted with severe injuries and continues to undergo urgent treatment.
Officers from the Mahilpur police station reached the scene shortly after receiving word of the incident to secure the area and assess the crash site. The woman’s body was transferred to the sub-divisional hospital mortuary in Garhshankar for a post-mortem examination, and local police have initiated preliminary legal proceedings into the circumstances surrounding the mishap.
