Bengaluru: A security scare unfolded on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Sunday after two gelatin sticks were discovered close to a route associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement and bomb disposal teams.
The explosive material was located during a routine pre-event security sweep near Tataguni under the jurisdiction of Kaggalipura Police Station, officials confirmed.
The Prime Minister was in Bengaluru to attend the 45th foundation day celebrations at the Art of Living Foundation campus on Kanakapura Road.
According to police, the gelatin sticks were found lying beside a footpath roughly three kilometres from the main event venue before the Prime Minister’s scheduled arrival.
The discovery triggered an immediate high alert, with forensic experts and bomb disposal squads rushing to the area to inspect the materials and secure the location.
Authorities have detained one individual for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Police are currently working to establish how the explosives reached the site and whether additional persons may have been involved.
Sources said the material was recovered near the Agara Lake stretch in the Tataguni area, a location that falls within the broader security perimeter monitored during the Prime Minister’s movement.
Senior officials have not indicated any direct threat to the event, but investigations are underway to determine whether the gelatin sticks were intentionally placed or abandoned for unrelated reasons.
Security arrangements around the venue were significantly intensified following the recovery, with surveillance increased across adjoining routes and surrounding localities.
Officials said further details would emerge after forensic analysis and questioning of the detained suspect.
