Ferozepur: In a significant crackdown on narco-smuggling, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur has dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking network with the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of over 28 kilograms of heroin along with cash suspected to be linked to drug transactions.
The operation was carried out in Guruharsahai, where police teams intercepted the accused and seized 28.12 kilograms of heroin. Authorities also recovered ₹9.5 lakh in cash, believed to be proceeds from previous narcotics deals.
Preliminary findings indicate that the arrested individuals were allegedly operating under the direction of foreign-based handlers and cross-border smugglers. Investigators suspect the accused had been assigned the task of receiving the heroin consignment after it entered Indian territory and ensuring its onward distribution across different locations.
Police officials said the module appears to be part of a wider international smuggling network with direct links to operators based outside India. The accused are believed to have played a critical logistical role in transporting and circulating the narcotics after retrieval from border-linked drop points.
Investigators are now working to trace both the supply chain and local distribution channels associated with the racket. Efforts are also underway to identify financial trails and uncover additional individuals connected to the operation.
Senior officers stated that further arrests and recoveries are likely as the probe progresses. Raids are expected to continue in the coming days to dismantle the remaining parts of the network.
Punjab Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and said strict surveillance remains in place along vulnerable border regions to curb attempts at cross-border smuggling.
The latest seizure is being viewed as a major success in the state’s ongoing campaign against narco-crime, which authorities say remains one of their highest enforcement priorities.
