New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the deadline for NEET-UG 2026 candidates to submit their bank account information for fee refunds following the cancellation of the examination amid controversy over alleged irregularities.
According to the latest announcement, students can now update and submit their refund details on the official NEET-UG portal until June 22, 2026, by 11:50 PM. The earlier cut-off date was scheduled for May 27, but authorities decided to provide additional time after a large number of candidates were still in the process of completing the formalities.
The agency revealed that more than 13 lakh applicants have already uploaded their refund-related information since the dedicated online facility was activated earlier this month. Candidates have been advised to log in using their application credentials and carefully fill in their banking details to avoid any issues during the refund process.
Officials also stated that students may upload a cancelled cheque to ensure accuracy while entering account information. Once the details are submitted, no further corrections or modifications will be allowed.
The extension comes in the backdrop of the nationwide uproar surrounding NEET-UG 2026, which was scrapped after allegations of paper leaks and examination malpractice surfaced shortly after the test was conducted. The exam, originally held on May 3 across hundreds of centres in India and abroad, had witnessed participation from over 22 lakh aspirants.
The controversy triggered protests from students and parents across several states, prompting multiple investigations, including a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Meanwhile, the Union Education Ministry has announced enhanced security measures for the re-examination scheduled to take place on June 21. Authorities are reportedly strengthening monitoring systems and tightening examination protocols to ensure transparency and prevent future irregularities.
Officials have also indicated that beginning next year, NEET-UG may shift to a computer-based testing format in an effort to improve security and minimise the risk of paper leaks and other examination-related misconduct.
