New Delhi: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs is scheduled to convene on Friday evening for a crucial meeting focusing on India’s evolving relations with China and Pakistan, ahead of its official study visit to the border regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Headed by Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor, the committee will receive a pre-departure briefing from senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs at the Parliament House Annexe. The interaction is expected to provide members with a comprehensive understanding of the strategic and diplomatic issues linked to India’s northern and western frontiers.
The committee’s study tour, planned from June 22 to June 25, will cover Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil and Leh. The visit aims to give lawmakers first-hand exposure to the security environment and the geopolitical realities shaping India’s border policies.
Among the key issues on the agenda are the current state of India-China relations, developments along the Line of Actual Control, and the broader roadmap for future engagement between the two countries. The committee will also deliberate on recent changes in India-Pakistan ties, with particular emphasis on the security situation and diplomatic dynamics along the international border.
The discussions are expected to contribute to Parliament’s understanding of regional security challenges and help strengthen policy recommendations on border management, diplomacy and national security. The upcoming field visit is also likely to provide committee members with direct interactions and ground-level insights into issues affecting strategically important frontier regions.
