Ambala: A 22-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic road accident in Haryana’s Ambala after she was allegedly run over by a drunk policeman on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Nikita. Local residents apprehended the accused officer at the scene.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred when a Honda City car, allegedly driven by the policeman, first collided with an e-rickshaw from behind. Nikita, who was seated in the e-rickshaw, fell onto the road due to the impact. Witnesses claim that despite seeing her fall, the driver did not stop and instead drove over her before attempting to flee.

Bystanders rushed the severely injured Nikita to the District Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead around 9 pm.

Details of the Incident

Nikita was a resident of Kartar Nagar in Ambala. She had arrived at Ambala Cantonment railway station from Delhi with her brother, Harsh Bajaj. At approximately 8:15 pm, the siblings boarded an e-rickshaw to travel from the cantonment area to the city.

The e-rickshaw was being driven by Ravinder, a resident of Milap Nagar. Other passengers included Keshav, a resident of Patel Nagar, and his wife Poonam. When the vehicle had crossed around 100 meters ahead of the Kali Palton bridge towards the city, a speeding Honda City rammed into it from behind.

The collision was reportedly so forceful that the e-rickshaw lost control, and Nikita was thrown onto the road.

Accused Allegedly in Intoxicated State

Eyewitnesses stated that the car driver initially stopped the vehicle ahead, then moved it again towards the e-rickshaw. However, upon noticing a crowd gathering, he applied the brakes. Locals pulled him out of the car and alleged that he was intoxicated and wearing a police uniform.

Residents immediately informed Dial 112 and the local police station. The accused was detained at the scene.

Following Nikita’s death, tension escalated at the hospital’s trauma centre, where a heavy commotion was reported until around 11:10 pm. Authorities are expected to initiate further legal proceedings in the case.

The incident has triggered outrage in the area, with residents demanding strict action against the accused.
