Chandigarh: Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashean Virudh” continues to show encouraging results, with more than 90,000 drug abuse victims admitted to de-addiction and Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centres across the state between March 1, 2025, and May 2026. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said the campaign is focused not only on strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers but also on treatment, rehabilitation and helping affected individuals return to a healthy and productive life.
The minister emphasized that long-term success in the fight against drugs depends on prevention and early intervention at the family and community levels. He said parents, teachers and community members play a crucial role in identifying early warning signs of substance abuse, including sudden mood swings, poor academic or work performance, social withdrawal, secrecy, disturbed sleep patterns and neglect of personal hygiene. Timely counselling and professional support can help prevent addiction from worsening.
According to the government, many individuals who underwent treatment and rehabilitation under the campaign have successfully overcome addiction and resumed normal lives. Beneficiaries have credited de-addiction centres for providing medical care, counselling and emotional support, enabling them to rebuild their future. The Punjab Government reiterated its commitment to strengthening awareness, rehabilitation and enforcement efforts to achieve a drug-free Punjab.
