Chandigarh: Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to ensuring that every needy woman in the state receives the support she deserves. She said that the objective of providing financial assistance to widows and destitute women is not only to extend economic support but also to enable them to live with dignity, confidence and self-reliance.
Sharing details, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Widows and Destitute Women, nearly ₹624 crore has been released during the current financial year 2026-27, benefiting more than 7 lakh women with regular financial assistance.
She said that a budget provision of over ₹1,200 crore has been made for the scheme during the financial year 2026-27, reflecting the Punjab Government’s firm resolve to further strengthen the social security system and ensure hassle-free and timely delivery of benefits to all deserving beneficiaries.
She made it clear that no woman should be deprived of the benefits of this welfare initiative due to lack of awareness, administrative delay or negligence at any level. Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab Government has adopted a transparent and people-centric approach to ensure effective implementation of all welfare schemes. She added that continuous monitoring and regular reviews are being carried out to ensure that social security benefits reach the people who need them the most.
