Shimla: Aiming to strengthen educational infrastructure and provide students, particularly those in rural and remote areas, with access to quality education and modern learning facilities, the state government, led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has decided to upgrade six government schools across the state as Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools.
The schools selected for upgradation are Government Senior Secondary School, Karsog (CBSE) in Karsog Assembly Constituency of Mandi district, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Rampur Bushahr (CBSE) in Rampur Assembly Constituency, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Rohru (HPBOSE) in Rohru Assembly Constituency, Government Senior Secondary School, Chopal (CBSE) in Chopal Assembly Constituency of Shimla district, Government Senior Secondary School, Nauradhar (CBSE) in Renuka Ji Assembly Constituency of Sirmaur district and Government Senior Secondary School, Behdala (HPBOSE) in Una Assembly Constituency of Una district.
The state government has introduced Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools with the objective of strengthening educational infrastructure and improving the quality of education across the state. These schools are being equipped with modern facilities, including high-tech smart classrooms, sports grounds, indoor stadiums, nutritious meals and swimming pools, among other facilities. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the standard of government educational institutions and instill confidence among students from rural areas, enabling them to face the challenges of life more effectively.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that education and health remain among the top priorities of the state government and concerted efforts by the present government have started yielding positive results. He said that according to a survey conducted by the Central Government in 2021, during the previous BJP government, Himachal Pradesh had ranked 21st in the field of quality education. However, the state has now improved its position to fifth place in terms of quality education, reflecting the significant progress made under the present government.
The Chief Minister further said that the introduction of CBSE-based education in government schools has also yielded encouraging results. Around 24,000 students have shifted from private schools to government schools, owing to the availability of quality education and modern facilities at nominal costs compared to private institutions, he added
