New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will respond in the Lok Sabha to the Opposition’s demands regarding police action against student protesters at Jantar Mantar, provided the Opposition maintains order and decorum during proceedings, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Monday. The announcement followed a Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee meeting where opposition parties insisted on a full discussion regarding the July 20 student demonstrations and police force deployment before transacting routine business.
Rijiju confirmed that the government is prepared for a comprehensive debate on student movements and related concerns, emphasizing that the Home Minister will deliver a detailed reply once the discussion concludes. On the parallel demand raised by Opposition members concerning an inquiry into alleged Ram Mandir donation irregularities, Rijiju noted that a Special Investigation Team constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government is actively investigating the matter.
Despite the government’s proposal, slogan-shouting and disruptions continued when the Lok Sabha reconvened at 2:00 PM, with Presiding Officer Jagdambika Pal appealing to members to maintain discipline. Before adjourning for the day amid opposition protests, the House passed the Tribunal Reforms Bill, introduced by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, following brief proceedings.
