Delhi: Residents of the national capital may get brief relief from intense summer conditions, as the weather department has predicted partly cloudy skies with a chance of light rain and thunderstorms on Sunday.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.9 degrees Celsius in the morning, slightly below the usual average for this time of year.
Despite the cloud activity, the city is expected to remain extremely hot through the day, with the mercury likely to touch around 46 degrees Celsius.
Weather officials said changing atmospheric conditions could trigger isolated drizzle and thunderstorm activity in some parts of the city later in the day, though widespread rainfall is not expected.
Humidity levels stood at 42 per cent at 8:30 am, adding to discomfort as rising daytime temperatures combine with moisture in the air.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate category on Sunday morning.
Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board showed the Air Quality Index at 164 at 9 am, indicating that while pollution levels are manageable for most people, sensitive groups may still experience minor breathing discomfort.
Under the CPCB’s AQI scale, readings between 101 and 200 fall under the moderate bracket, while anything above 200 indicates worsening air quality conditions.
The forecast comes as north India continues to battle fluctuating weather patterns marked by scorching daytime heat and occasional cloud development.
Meteorologists have advised people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions, including gusty winds or brief thunderstorms.
