Appeals to people of Himachal Pradesh to participate actively in national census exercise

Shimla: Governor Kavinder Gupta today completed his self-enumeration at Lok Bhavan as part of the second phase of Census 2027. Director, Directorate of Census Operations, Himachal Pradesh, Deep Shikha Sharma, along with senior officials of the Directorate, were present on the occasion.

Deep Shikha Sharma briefed the Governor about the 40 questions included in the population enumeration process and highlighted its wider socio-economic significance for planning and policy formulation.

In his message to the people of Himachal Pradesh, the Governor said that the second phase of census 2027, covering population enumeration in the snow-bound areas of the State, will be conducted from 1 to 30 September, 2026. He said the census is crucial for formulating accurate development policies and welfare programmes based on reliable demographic and socio-economic data.

He said that keeping in view the convenience of residents of snow-bound areas, a special facility for digital self-enumeration has been made available from 17 to 31 August, 2026.
The Governor urged people to make maximum use of the official self-enumeration facility and submit complete and accurate information about themselves and their families by August 31.

He further appealed to citizens to warmly welcome enumerators when they visit households and provide them with correct information. ‘The active participation and cooperation of every citizen will be vital for the successful completion of census 2027, a national exercise of immense importance,’ he said.
