Chandigarh: After days of rising temperatures, weather conditions across Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to shift starting Thursday, with chances of light rainfall and gusty winds in select regions.
According to the Meteorological Department, a fresh Western Disturbance has become active over the Himalayan belt, influencing weather patterns in the plains. As a result, districts such as Pathankot, Amritsar and Gurdaspur may witness isolated showers, particularly by the evening hours. Strong surface winds are also likely to prevail during the day.
Despite the expected change, heat levels remain high. The state has recorded a rise of over one degree Celsius compared to the previous day, with temperatures staying above the seasonal average. Patiala emerged as the hottest location, registering a maximum temperature of 38.3°C, while Chandigarh recorded 36.8°C.
Other major cities also reported elevated temperatures, indicating a widespread heat trend. The weather remained dry across the state over the past 24 hours, intensifying discomfort for residents.
Officials attribute the evolving conditions to a combination of cyclonic circulation and a trough formation, which is expected to bring partial cloud cover and minor relief in some areas. However, the respite may be short-lived, as temperatures are forecast to climb further by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next few days.
Meteorological experts have indicated that light rainfall could occur at isolated places between April 16 and 17, after which the weather is likely to stabilise without any major fluctuations.
Residents have been advised to stay cautious amid fluctuating conditions, as rising temperatures combined with strong winds may continue to impact daily life across the region.
