Ferozepur: A senior official of the Punjab government’s cooperative body Verka was abducted, brutally assaulted, and robbed of two lakh rupees by unidentified assailants near Jagraon in Ludhiana district. The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Dr. Surjeet Singh Bhadour, the General Manager of the Verka Dairy plant in Ferozepur, was travelling through the area in his private vehicle.

According to preliminary reports, a group of young men travelling in another car intercepted Dr. Bhadour’s vehicle under the jurisdiction of the Jagraon City police station. The assailants forcibly took control of the car, held the official captive, and drove him toward the neighbouring Moga area. During the journey, the kidnappers assaulted him violently, resulting in severe bone fractures that required surgical intervention, including the placement of a rod in his leg.

While holding him hostage, the attackers accessed Dr. Bhadour’s mobile phone and transferred approximately two lakh rupees from his account to another bank account before fleeing the scene. The injured official was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, where he continues to undergo intensive medical treatment for multiple serious injuries.

Following the assault, Jagraon police authorities were notified on Wednesday, after which Chowki In-charge Atma Singh visited the private hospital in Ludhiana to record the victim’s official statement. City Police Station In-charge Inspector Parminder Singh confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening and stated that a detailed investigation is underway to track down the unidentified suspects and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the crime.

The victim’s wife, Gurmeet Kaur, sharply criticized the state of law and order under the administration of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. She questioned why senior administrative officers face such extreme security vulnerabilities while high-ranking politicians enjoy heavy protection, demanding swift justice and stricter safety measures for public servants.
