Jalandhar: In a significant breakthrough against the illegal pharma–opioid trade, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a major drug supply network, seizing 1,85,000 Tramadol tablets and arresting four accused. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed the operation on Thursday.
According to investigators, the cartel was allegedly being run from inside Goindwal Jail, where handlers coordinated the supply chain and distribution. Police said the operation exposed how prison-based networks were being used to sustain the illicit trade.
An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Division No. 8, Jalandhar. Further investigations are underway to trace the financial trail, upstream suppliers, and downstream distribution points connected with the syndicate.
Reaffirming the state’s zero-tolerance approach, Punjab Police said it remains committed to dismantling drug cartels and protecting the youth through intelligence-led, coordinated operations.
