Chandigarh — Punjab Governor and Punjab Red Cross Society President Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday launched a public-health initiative by flagging off vehicles carrying 50 fogging machines from Punjab Raj Bhavan. The machines will be deployed across eight flood-affected districts to curb the risk of vector-borne diseases.

Even as floodwaters have receded in many regions, stagnant pools remain in several villages, creating conditions for mosquito breeding. The Red Cross procured the fogging machines at a cost of ₹9 lakh using public donations, ensuring their immediate use in vulnerable communities.

Governor Kataria said the intervention would offer timely protection to residents of flood-hit villages and emphasized the need for coordinated relief and rehabilitation efforts to safeguard lives.

Present on the occasion were Principal Secretary to the Governor Vivek Partap Singh, Red Cross Punjab Secretary Shivdular Singh Dhillon, and volunteers of the Punjab Red Cross Society.
