Mumbai: The mortal remains of the 15 Indian nationals who lost their lives in the recent boat accident near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island are scheduled to arrive in India on Sunday, with authorities making arrangements for their onward transportation to their respective home states.

According to information shared by the Indian Embassy in Hanoi, the bodies are being flown from Ho Chi Minh City to Mumbai on a Vietnam Airlines flight. After landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the remains will be handed over to officials for transportation to the victims’ hometowns.

The embassy said all necessary documentation and local formalities in Vietnam had been completed in coordination with Vietnamese authorities, enabling the repatriation process to move forward without delay.

State administrations have already been informed about the arrival schedule and have been requested to coordinate with district authorities and the bereaved families to ensure the dignified transfer of the victims to their final destinations.

Indian diplomatic missions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City expressed condolences to the grieving families and said they remained available to provide assistance wherever required during the repatriation process.

The tragedy occurred after a tourist boat carrying Indian visitors met with an accident off Phu Quoc Island on July 11. Fifteen Indian tourists lost their lives, while several others were rescued from the sea during a large-scale emergency operation.

Most of the surviving passengers have already returned to India after receiving medical treatment, while one injured tourist continues to undergo treatment in Vietnam.

The incident has prompted close coordination between Indian and Vietnamese authorities, with officials from both countries working together to facilitate relief measures, assist survivors and ensure the early return of the deceased to their families.

The loss has deeply affected families across multiple Indian states, with local administrations preparing to receive the victims and extend necessary support to their relatives during the final rites.
