Montreal: A tragic incident has emerged from Canada, where two young men from Punjab lost their lives after drowning in a canal in Montreal. One of the deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Tapa Mandi in the Barnala district of Punjab. The second youth, whose name is yet to be disclosed, hailed from Butala village in the Naurangpur area of Amritsar district.

The unfortunate accident occurred at the Lachine Canal in Montreal. According to reports, Lovepreet Singh’s friend accidentally slipped and fell into the water. Upon witnessing this, Lovepreet immediately jumped into the canal in a brave attempt to rescue his friend. However, during the rescue efforts, Lovepreet also got swept away and drowned alongside him. Canadian emergency services arrived at the scene after being alerted, pulled both men out of the water, and rushed them to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The news has left Lovepreet’s family utterly devastated. The 26-year-old was working as a trailer driver on a work permit in Montreal. He was the only son of his parents and had moved to Canada after completing his Grade 12 education to fulfil his family’s dreams. To support his aspirations, his father, Balbir Singh, a former army personnel, had sold two and a half acres of land to fund his journey. The grieving family, including his parents and sister, last spoke to Lovepreet ten days before the tragedy.
