Chandigarh : A review meeting on the preparations and progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 in Haryana was held in Chandigarh on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Election Commissioner, Sh. Sanjay Kumar. Various arrangements, action plans and activities being carried out under the prescribed schedule for SIR-2026 were reviewed in detail during the meeting.
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. A. Sreenivas, said that the Deputy Election Commissioner emphasised the need to ensure accuracy, transparency and inclusiveness in the electoral rolls. He directed all officers to strictly adhere to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. Eligible citizens should be enrolled in the voter list, while the names of deceased, shifted and ineligible voters should be removed in accordance with the prescribed procedure fairly and carefully.
The Deputy Election Commissioner also reviewed the verification work being undertaken at the booth level. He directed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to conduct the door-to-door verification campaign effectively and systematically so that the revision of electoral rolls becomes more accurate and reliable. Emphasising the importance of regular interaction and coordination with representatives of political parties, he said that the active participation of all stakeholders in the revision process further strengthens the democratic system.
The meeting also discussed voter awareness programmes, timely disposal of claims and objections, and technical as well as administrative preparations. The Deputy Election Commissioner informed that notices would be issued to voters whose data mapping has not yet been completed. Considering the possibility of overcrowding at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers in such cases, voters have been advised to get the necessary data mapping completed through their respective Booth Level Officers.
The Deputy Election Commissioner directed all officers to accord top priority to the SIR-2026 exercise and ensure its successful completion within the stipulated timeframe. He said that the accuracy of electoral rolls is the foundation of the democratic process and that seriousness, transparency and accountability must be ensured at all levels.
