Gurdaspur: Punjab Police has cracked the Gurdaspur hand grenade case with the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to a foreign-directed conspiracy, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The breakthrough came after a joint operation carried out by Gurdaspur Police and the Counter Intelligence wing following the recovery of a hand grenade near Geeta Bhawan Road on April 27.
Investigators said the arrests were made after analysing CCTV footage, tracking technical evidence and acting on local intelligence inputs gathered during the probe.
During questioning, police recovered another live hand grenade from the residence of one of the accused, significantly strengthening the case.
Preliminary findings suggest the suspects were working under instructions from a foreign-based handler who had reportedly supplied them with two hand grenades for the operation.
Police believe the recovered explosives were intended for unlawful activities, though the exact target and motive are still being investigated.
An FIR has been lodged at City Police Station, Gurdaspur, under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
Security agencies are now examining possible links to wider cross-border networks and identifying individuals who may have provided logistical or local assistance to the accused.
Officials said efforts are also underway to trace the foreign handler and establish how the explosives were smuggled into the region.
Senior police officers described the arrests as a major success in preventing a potential threat to public safety.
Punjab Police stated that strong surveillance and coordinated intelligence-sharing played a key role in solving the case quickly.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, adding that strict action will continue against any attempts to disturb law and order through terror-linked activities.
