RAIPUR — In what is being hailed as a monumental success for India’s internal security operations, 108 hardened Maoist guerrillas surrendered in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The mass surrender involves individuals carrying a staggering cumulative reward of Rs 3.95 crore on their heads, signalling a significant collapse within the organizational structure of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee.
The development spans several restive districts within the Bastar region, where security forces have intensified their “clear and hold” operations over the last few months. Officials confirmed that 37 Maoists surrendered in Bijapur, followed by 30 in Dantewada, 18 in Sukma, 16 in Bastar, four in Narayanpur, and three in Kanker. Among those who have rejoined the mainstream are six high-ranking divisional commanders, each carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh. This coordinated move is viewed as a direct consequence of the dual-track strategy of military pressure and lucrative rehabilitation programmes offered by the state.
Beyond the personnel transition, the surrender has provided a tactical windfall for law enforcement. Based on information shared by the former insurgents, security forces have seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from various forest hideouts. This intelligence-led recovery is expected to further cripple the operational capabilities of the remaining splinter groups still active in the dense jungle terrain of central India.
The timing of this mass surrender is particularly significant as it aligns with the strict timeline set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has mandated the complete eradication of Naxalism from the country by March 31, 2026. As the “Red Corridor” continues to shrink, government officials believe that the combination of infrastructure development and targeted operations is successfully breaking the cycle of violence. The state government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those who lay down their arms are provided with the necessary skills and support to lead a peaceful life in civil society.
