Kishtwar: Security forces on Saturday renewed contact with a group of terrorists hiding in the Dolgam area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, marking another phase in the ongoing counter-terror operation, officials said.

The encounter took place in the early hours as joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) intensified search operations in the region. According to the Army, the action was launched after collating and analysing intelligence gathered from multiple agencies to ensure precise ground-level execution.

In a statement posted on social media, the Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed that contact was re-established under Operation Trashi-I and said a tight cordon has been laid around the area. Security personnel have continued combing operations to prevent any attempt by the militants to escape.

This is the fourth instance in the last two weeks in which forces have engaged with the same group of terrorists believed to be operating in the rugged terrain of Kishtwar. Officials said the operation aims to neutralise three militants affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit who have been evading capture.

Meanwhile, Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma visited Kishtwar to assess the counter-terrorism framework and review operational preparedness amid the prolonged exercise.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have temporarily suspended mobile internet services within a six-kilometre radius of Singhpora, Chingam and Chatroo. Officials said the step was taken to prevent any possible misuse of communication networks by anti-national elements during the ongoing operation.

Security forces remain on high alert as the search continues in the forested and mountainous stretches of the district.
