Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has announced plans to visit China in April and confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to travel to the United States later this year.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump said he would be meeting Xi in April, adding that the Chinese leader would make a return visit to the US toward the end of the year. He did not disclose specific dates for either trip. “I’ll be visiting President Xi Jinping in April. He’s coming here later in the year, and I look forward to it. Our relationship with China is very good right now,” Trump said.

In a recent interview with NBC News anchor Tom Llamas, Trump reiterated his travel plans, stating that he would be going to China in April, followed by Xi’s visit to the White House later in the year. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties between the two nations, describing them as the world’s two most powerful countries.

The announcement follows a 90-minute phone conversation between Trump and Xi on February 4. According to Trump, the discussion centered largely on trade issues and did not address other geopolitical matters such as Iran or Ukraine. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the call as having reached a “very positive conclusion for both Countries.”

During the conversation, Xi extended an invitation for Trump and the First Lady to visit China, which Trump said he reciprocated. Chinese state media outlet Xinhua reported that Xi stressed the importance of China-US relations and highlighted what he described as effective communication between the two leaders over the past year, including a meeting in Busan that helped shape bilateral ties.

A readout from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Xi urged both sides to pursue “win-win results” based on equality and mutual respect, and called on Washington to remove what he termed negative measures against China.

The planned visits signal continued diplomatic engagement between the two global powers amid ongoing trade discussions and broader strategic competition.
