Gurdaspur: A tragic incident in Punjab has triggered widespread concern after a 15-year-old student from Gurdaspur died by suicide following an alleged disciplinary action at his school in Hoshiarpur.
The Class 11 student reportedly consumed a poisonous substance after being punished at a private convent school. According to family members, the teenager had been made to stand outside the principal’s office for an extended period, an incident they claim left him deeply humiliated in front of his peers.
He was rushed to a hospital and remained under treatment for several days before succumbing to his condition.
The grieving family performed his last rites in an emotional ceremony, placing a traditional groom’s turban on his head—a symbolic gesture reflecting unfulfilled dreams.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Punjab Police has registered a case against the school management under charges related to abetment to suicide. Officials confirmed that the matter is being investigated thoroughly, and statements from students and staff are being recorded.
Some students have also alleged strict disciplinary practices at the institution, claiming that minor infractions often lead to public reprimand or threats of expulsion. However, authorities have yet to verify these claims.
The incident has reignited debate over student mental health and the need for sensitive handling of disciplinary issues in educational institutions. Police have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
