Chandigarh: Punjab and Chandigarh are set to experience clear skies and dry weather on Tuesday, with bright sunshine and breezy conditions dominating the day. However, meteorologists have indicated a shift in weather patterns beginning Wednesday, with the possibility of light rainfall and a slight dip in temperatures.
According to the weather department, temperatures have been gradually rising across the region. Over the past 24 hours, the mercury has climbed closer to seasonal averages, with Patiala recording around 35°C and Chandigarh hovering near 34°C. Despite the warming trend, gusty winds have provided some relief during daytime hours.
Strong Winds to Continue
High-altitude winds sweeping across northwest India are currently influencing local conditions. These winds, moving at significant speeds, are expected to persist through the day, leading to breezy weather across plains including Punjab and Haryana. Surface winds ranging between 30 to 40 km/h may continue over the next couple of days.
Weather experts noted that such conditions are typical ahead of a seasonal transition, often bringing temporary relief from rising heat levels.
Western Disturbance to Trigger Change
A fresh western disturbance is likely to become active over the Himalayan region between April 15 and 16. This system is expected to impact parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and may extend its influence to adjoining plains.
As a result, parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh could witness light rainfall, cloud cover, and occasional strong winds from Wednesday onwards. The change may also lead to a marginal fall in temperatures after the recent rise.
Cool Nights, Warmer Days Ahead
Interestingly, Chandigarh recently recorded one of the lowest minimum temperatures among plains regions at around 15°C, which was below normal for this time of year. Meanwhile, some districts in Punjab have also experienced brief spells of gusty winds and localised storms.
Looking ahead, the maximum temperature is expected to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next week, signaling the gradual onset of more intense summer conditions despite intermittent weather disturbances.
Residents have been advised to stay prepared for fluctuating weather, with warm days, cooler mornings, and the likelihood of light rain in the coming days.
