Amritsar — The Ajnala region is gradually recovering from the recent floods, with schools preparing to reopen on Tuesday. On Sunday, former cabinet minister and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, along with his daughter Amandeep Kaur, personally took part in a cleanliness drive at a government school.

During the flood days, the school campus had been temporarily converted into a cowshed, leaving the premises dirty. With classes set to resume, Dhaliwal picked up a broom to clean the rooms and courtyard, while also motivating staff to join the effort. “We first served the cows, now it is time to serve the children. Education must begin in a clean environment,” he said.

Dhaliwal also inspected other schools to review cleaning and repair work.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni has directed that all government schools in the flood-affected area reopen from Tuesday. Students of schools that have suffered serious damage have been shifted to nearby safe institutions.

Officials said that of the 31 primary and 13 senior secondary schools in the area, some sustained damage, but arrangements have been made to ensure studies are not disrupted. Books and bags are also being distributed to children so that their education continues smoothly.
